The History of Maple Syrup

The indigenous aboriginal people of North America were the first to taste the sweetness of spring. Resourceful individuals tasting the clear water-like liquid trickling from certain trees discovered it hinted of even sweeter uncovering's to come.

According to Native American oral tradition maple syrup has been in production since the beginning of time in the woods of North Eastern America. With the introduction of the English, French, Dutch and German colonists new metal utensils were now available to increase the amount of maple syrup boiled and reduced into the sweet gold nectar we know today.

The Algonquin word for maple syrup is 'sinzibuckwud', meaning 'drawn from wood'.
